GP Practice Pharmacist

MPA GP PRACTICES – primarily for Maidstone Road Chatham Surgery, but may be at other sites in Medway when needed

Salary: £40,000 to £53,000 depending on experience and prescribing qualification

Hours: 2 days / 20 hours but negotiable

Job Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced clinical pharmacist to join our team, and to work  on-site at our GP practices.  MPA is currently expanding its network of GP practices, which now covers eight sites and provides care to 39,000 patients.  You would work primarily Maidstone Road Chatham Surgery, but sites can be flexible depending on your requirements and our needs.

The clinical team currently has four prescribing pharmacists, a junior pharmacist and a Medicines Management administrator plus GPs, ANPs, Physician associate, paramedics, and practice nurses.  We will be taking on a foundation year pharmacist from 2023 in partnership with Medway Foundation Trust.

We are looking for an experienced clinical pharmacist who understands primary care and preferably with a prescribing qualification.  If you are not yet a prescriber we can support the right candidate to complete the course.  We are keen to support a pharmacist who has a specialist area of interest to help provide the best care to our patients. 

Your main duties will involve:  clinics to undertake medication reviews and chronic disease management; drug audits for clinical safety and quality improvement and to help meet local CCG targets; medicines reconciliation after hospital discharge; dealing with medication-related queries from patients and clinicians; helping with repeat medication requests; and other clinical work depending on your experience.

Job summary:

MPA Group Practices is a well-established Primary Care business and are proud to offer the highest standard of patient-centred healthcare across the five sites covering the Medway Towns and Swale region.

MPA are looking to recruit a Paramedic to join our friendly nursing team, to work across sites as demand requires for a busy GP Practice.

The ideal candidate will have experience in managing patients with acute and chronic illnesses, experience with history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, Face to face and telephone/video consultations, home visits and triage minor illnesses and care evaluation – prescribing qualification would be ideal but not essential 

You will be working closely with salaried GPs ; practice nurses; advanced nurse practitioners; Physician Associate; health care assistants; Podiatrists and Phlebotomists and approximately 33 administration staff including reception. We are friendly, approachable and supportive of our staff and encourage our staff to reach their full potential. We are keen increase out nursing team.

HCPC registered and experience in a Primary Care setting is desirable but not essential, training will be provided but safe clinical decision making and patient care are paramount

Essential to have excellent computer, patient /people skills along with an eye for detail and be prepared to be flexible being a key member of the clinical team influencing and developing the role

An understanding of the EMIS Web or similar clinical system would be an advantage

Job summary:

MPA Group Practices are looking for an enthusiastic Receptionist/Practice Administrator with excellent interpersonal, customer service and organisational skills to work in our GP practice, which covers four sites and has 19,000 patients.

Applicants will need to work both on a busy reception desk dealing with patients over the telephone and face to face and also work in the back office performing clinical administration tasks.

MPA Ltd is a GP Federation delivering multiple clinical services across Medway; this also includes MPA Group Practices which covers Balmoral Gardens Surgery, Castle Medical Practice, Princes Park Medical Centre, Sunlight Centre and Twydall Surgery.

Job summary

We are looking to recruit a dynamic and ambitious Clinical Lead GP to be part of our Primary Care team within our well-established organisation. You will receive support and mentorship from our senior management team and have the opportunity to pursue specialist interests as part of our portfolio of services.

The role is based at Castle Medical Practice, Rochester Healthy Living Centre.  You will be working with friendly and professional practice teams to lead and provide high quality services to 4300 patients. We believe that general practice can be a fun and supportive environment for GPs. We ensure this through highly developed systems and processes, and support from healthcare professionals, such as our Practice Nurses, Pharmacists, Phlebotomists, Podiatrists, Healthcare Assistants and Paramedic Practitioners.

The Clinical Lead role is envisaged to have more clinical leadership responsibility than a traditional salaried GP role but without the personal risk associated with partnership.  

You will benefit from:

Permanent position – minimum six sessions per week @ £11,500 to £12,000 per session per annum

Our Clinical Lead GP Role Profile:

Clinical Quality & Patient Safety

Be responsible for taking an overview of the clinical functions of the practice in terms of service quality and safety.

Ensure that the systems exist to embed best clinical practice into the practice (e.g. implementation of NICE guidance, record keeping etc).

Take the lead for all clinical aspects of CQC compliance (Safe, Caring, Effective, Responsive, Well-Led).

Take the overall lead for review of clinical aspects of Significant Event reviews, ensuring that learning points are captured and embedded into practice.

Ensure that the patient perspective remains at the heart of the practice and its decision-making.

Ensure that the systems exist to embed patient safety across the practice (e.g. record keeping, national and local safety alerts).

Clinical Staffing

Be a point of local contact for practice clinical staff who need support and guidance over quality and safety concerns. This may include a formal role in some staff members’ practice-based appraisals in some instances.

Maintain an overview of the practice’s skill mix, from the point of view of access, quality and safety.

Ensure that all key areas that require designated clinical leads have them and support those leads to achieve excellence and organisational coherence across the practice.

Support career development of clinical staff both within and outside the practice, with a particular focus on integration of practice services with community services.

Planning/Policy

Play a key role in the practice’s planning for the future, bringing the quality and safety concerns to the fore and ensuring these are balanced with organisational and financial concerns.

Bring in examples of best practice from local/regional/national models of care that will drive up the quality of care and services.

Sign off practice-based clinical policies and procedures.

The appointee will also have the opportunity to take part in leading on key disease areas and assist in developing appropriate healthcare services for a diverse patient list.

An understanding of the EMIS Web clinical system would be an advantage.

The post holder will be enthusiastic, conscientious and able to integrate easily into the team.
